Frist Center Announces Calendar Of Events For 3/1-5/17 2009

Frist Center announces their Calendar of Events March 1-May 17, 2009 Free Jazz on the Move Series Continues, March 15 and April 19 The Nashville Jazz Workshop and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts present the popular series, Jazz on the Move, that feature a combination lecture and performance, presented by some of Nashville's top jazz artists and educators. The programs take place on a series of Sunday at 3 p.m. in the auditorium. All performances are free and open to the public. This series is made possible by an Arts Builds Communities (ABC) grant from the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Busch's THIRD STORY Offers Actors Fund Performance 3/8

THIRD STORY will offer a special performance to benefit the Actors Fund on March 8th, 2009. Charles Busch's THIRD STORY co-stars the playwright and Kathleen Turner. A mother and son screenwriting team hunker down in Omaha after fleeing Commie-obsessed 1940's Hollywood. A romantically-inclined but socially-inept princess makes a deal with an ancient witch. And tommy guns meet test tubes as a way-too-well-dressed first lady of the mob forms a desperate alliance with a cloning scientist whose experiments have had, um, less-than-consistent results. Gangster flicks, fairy tales, and B-movie sci-fi collide in this epic comic fable from the imagination of Charles Busch.

Profiles Theatre continues its 20th Anniversary Season with the acclaimed new dark comedy The Wonderful World of Dissocia by Anthony Neilson, directed by Profiles Associate Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox. The production runs March 26 - May 10, 2009, at Profiles Theatre, 4147 N. Broadway. The press opening is Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 8:00 p.m.

Fountain Theater Announces Its 2009 Season Of New Plays

The multiple award-winning Fountain Theatre is excited to announce its 2009 Season of new plays. Following on the heels of the critically acclaimed, twice-extended run of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean, just nominated for 8 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards and continuing through February 22, will be three new plays, including two West Coast premieres and a Los Angeles premiere: Photograph 51 by Anna Ziegler (March 21-May 3); Coming Home by Athol Fugard (Summer, 2009); and Shining City by Conor McPherson (Fall, 2009). In addition, The Fountain's popular Forever Flamenco! dance series, which continues on the first, third and occasional fifth Sunday of every month at the intimate Fountain venue, has been selected by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to present an all-star Forever Flamenco! extravaganza at the Ford Amphitheatre on August 1; and The Fountain will re-mount last season's successful The Accomplices by Bernard Weinraub for an eight-week run at the Odyssey Theatre (April 25-June 14)

The Met Expands Its Repertory In The 2009-10 Season

Eight new productions, four of which are company premieres, will highlight the Metropolitan Opera's 2009-10 season. General Manager Peter Gelb and Music Director James Levine jointly announced plans that include: the Met premieres of Rossini's Armida, Verdi's Attila, Jan?ček's From the House of the Dead, and Shostakovich's The Nose; new productions of Bizet's Carmen, Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Thomas's Hamlet, and Puccini's Tosca; and 18 revivals from the company's repertory. The season is the first to be entirely planned under Gelb's leadership, in collaboration with Levine (the past three seasons were planned before Gelb became General Manager in 2006-07 but included some productions, repertoire, and casting changes made by Gelb).

Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce its 2009 theatre season, which opens on Shakespeare's birthday, 23 April, and goes under the overall title of Young Hearts.
