Roanoke Children's Theatre To Start The Conversation On Distracted Driving

A new study by Liberty Mutual Insurance and SADD reveals teens become riskier drivers as they enter senior year. The study "finds that older teen drivers are overconfident and perceive themselves as safer drivers despite experiencing more accidents and near misses (57 percent of seniors) than their younger peers (34 percent of sophomores)." Roanoke Children's Theatre will ignite the conversation on distracted driving with the world premiere of ILY: HANG UP & DRIVE, part of the RCT4TEENS programming. There will be public performances of ILY: HANG UP & DRIVE on March 1 and 2, 2018. Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre at the Jefferson Center (541 Luck Avenue SW).

George Street Playhouse has announced full casting for Curvy Widow, starring Broadway's Nancy Opel (GSP's The Toxic Avenger, Broadway's Honeymoon in Vegas). The sassy musical comedy will not only close out GSP's 2016-17 season, but also mark the final show performed in the Playhouse's current building. Curvy Widow runs May 2-21, 2017, with opening night scheduled for May 5th, 2017.

Fulton Theatre Opens IN THE HEIGHTS and Adds Performances

 The nationally regarded Fulton Theatre adds five performances to the existing run of In The Heights as presales break records. Added performances include Sunday, March 19 at 7:30 pm, Thursday, March 23 at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 2 at 7:30 pm, Monday, April 3 at 7:30 pm and Tuesday, April 4 at 7:30 pm. In The Heights must close April 4.

Roanoke City has seen incredible progress over the last 20 years and in 2014, a big decrease in teen pregnancy put Roanoke City as 14th in the state out of approximately 130 cities/counties. Roanoke Children's Theatre will shed more light on this issue facing teens with the upcoming production of BABYLAND. There will be public performances of BABYLAND on February 3 and 9, 2017. Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre at the Jefferson Center (541 Luck Avenue SW).

Nancy Opel-Led CURVY WIDOW Will Land at George Street Playhouse in May

George Street Playhouse has announced that the new musical comedy Curvy Widow, starring Broadway's Nancy Opel (GSP's The Toxic Avenger, Broadway's Honeymoon in Vegas), will be the fifth and final show of the New Brunswick theatre's 2016-17 season.  The show runs May 2-21, 2017, with opening night scheduled for May 5, 2017.
