The theatre and music world lost a great friend and mentor with the passing of Michael Larsen, who was instrumental in shaping the careers of many stars of theatre, film and television. Larsen died suddenly on Thursday, October 26, 2017, after suffering with a heart condition for many years. He was 57.

 To ring in the New Year, on January 1 National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will present 'Light Up The Night,' a concert of rediscovered and restored pre- and post-WWII music from the theatrical works of the great composers of the Golden Age of Yiddish Theater.  These include Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky and Secunda.  All are leading songwriters from the era of 'The Golden Bride,' which was presented by Folksbiene Theatre in 2015 and 2016.  The cast will feature performers who were acclaimed in that production, backed by a 16-piece orchestra.  The production is in Yiddish with projected supertitles.  The full concert will be offered twice, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place.

Andrew Keltz makes his New York City solo debut with a show at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on November 22 at 9:30pm. This cabaret, dubbed THIRTY THANKSGIVINGS, will include songs and stories of food, family, and friendship. All net proceeds will be donated to City Harvest - rescuing food for New York's hungry. Composer and lyricist Tyler Beattie joins Andrew as music director.

Rachel Zatcoff (coming directly from a run as Christine in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway) has joined the cast of THE GOLDEN BRIDE (Di Goldene Kale), which returns for a limited Off-Broadway engagement beginning July 4th. As originally presented by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene [NYTF] in December of 2015, the production was nominated for 2 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Featuring a cast of 20 and an orchestra of 14, this rare glimpse back into musical theater history will run through August 28 at The Museum of Jewish Heritage's Edmond J. Safra Hall.

Playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, across from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, from which the story has taken inspiration, this limited Off Broadway engagement opened last night and will run through August 6th. 103 seasons and going strong - and not just because of nostalgia. The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene has reimagined 'Amerike - The Golden Land', the 1984 musical by Zalmen Mlotek and Moishe Rosenfeld, appropriately running near Ellis Island. Weaving incredible stories with fantastic songs, multimedia and choreography, the show creates a dynamic portrayal of the Jewish people who immigrated to the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, much like my own grandparents.

The performance schedule has been changed for 'Light Up The Night,' a theatrical concert of rediscovered and restored Yiddish theater songs by Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky, and Secunda, to be presented by National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) January 1 in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, Manhattan.  Originally two shows were planned, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.  The 2:00 PM performance continues as scheduled but the 6:00 PM performance has been canceled.
