Following a sold-out limited engagement the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will close the fully-restored operetta The Sorceress (Di Kishefmakherin) following today's 2pm performance at NYC's Museum of Jewish Heritage.

At a plenary session today, participants in the first Immigration Arts Summit, conceived and hosted by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on Monday and Tuesday, agreed to formally organize as an Immigrant Arts Coalition, a network of arts organizations and individual artists that produce ethnic-based art from other cultures for New York audiences. In a time when issues of immigration, assimilation, xenophobia, and socio-economic upheaval are more present than ever, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene will bring to the stage a reimagined version of Moishe Rosenfeld and Zalmen Mlotek's Amerike-The Golden Land, a musical journey of the immigration experience. Playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, across from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, from which the story has taken inspiration, this limited Off Broadway engagement opened last night and will run through August 6th. America-in-Play presents the premiere of A Time-Traveler's Trip to Niagra, Following the Bold Adventures and Strange Detours of an Unlikely Group of Travelers Across Time and America. Running through May 18 at the Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street), this unique comedy interweaves two journeys up the Hudson River: one by bus in 2014 and one by steamboat in 1828. From upper class Brits taking a tour of the Early Republic to a modern brother and sister taking a bus ride upstate to trace their roots, the two trips converge at the iconic and spectacular Niagara Falls and aim to investigate the relationship between the American landscape and identity while exploring ties between past and future. A unique 'Dime Museum' exploring Americana and the play will be open 30 minutes before each performance. Check out a first look below!

Cooper Grodin assumed the title role in the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera on January 9 in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. For its 99th season, the National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene will present one of the largest productions in its history, the American premiere of a new musical based on the 1975 Academy-Award-nominated film Lies My Father Told Me adapted from the works of Ted Allan. This week's 'episode' of Jim Caruso's Cast Party started off with a bang, as the National Yiddish Theater Company's cast of The Golden Land stormed the stage with two wonderful songs. Not to be outdone, Mira Awad came all the way from Israel to serenade the sold-out house with a song from her native land.
