BWW Review: THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS a High-Energy, Fun Escape at Carrollwood Players Theatre
by Deborah Bostock-Kelley - Mar 3, 2019

Like Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper radiating adoration and raw sexual chemistry, singing "Shallow" at the Oscars, as Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd's hand roved up Miss Mona Stangley's lace stockings while they nuzzled on the couch, Angel Tuider Frale and Michael c De Baca scorched the stage at Carrollwood Players. The yearning for something more, an unrequited love was palatable. That's called great acting.

The Irish Heritage Theatre And Plays and Players Theatre Presents DA by Hugh Leonard
by A.A. Cristi - Jan 30, 2019

It is with great excitement that the Irish Heritage Theatre announces our Spring 2019 production Da by Hugh Leonard. After a highly successful and critically acclaimed 'Women of Ireland' season last year featuring By the Bog of Cats (several critics' awards including third place overall in Best Actor (Female) category and our first Barrymore WINNING production- Best Supporting Performer in a Play for our own Tina Brock). Our first show of the season, Lay Me Down Softly brought us our second Barrymore recommendation, and was our best attended show to date. When we think of this season, we think of the concept of Fatherhood, and what it means within the Irish culture, and there is perhaps no better play to showcase what it means to be an Irish Dad than Da.

BWW Review: Theatre in the Park's IT'S ONLY A PLAY Has Makings of a Good Show, but...
by Lauren Van Hemert - Aug 16, 2018

There's an irony about sitting in a theater on opening night reviewing a play about a play and the sometimes-tempestuous relationship between the players and the critics. But that's exactly what Terrence McNally's IT'S ONLY A PLAY is about, a group of theater people waiting for the reviews of their play after the opening night performance. Last week, the show opened at Theatre in the Park (TIP) in Raleigh to mixed reviews. All the makings of a good show are there. The ensemble features some of the Triangle's most exceptional comedic performers including Ira David Wood IV, Brian Westbrook, Rob Jenkins, and Lynda Clark. In addition, the production is directed by the ever so talented Jesse R. Gephart. And the set is simply spectacular. But not even this talented cast and crew can save McNally's script, which feels more like a diatribe than a farce.  Yes, there are funny moments, but they are few and far between and more reliant on the physical comedy of the competent cast than McNally's pen.

The Irish Heritage Theatre Presents LAY ME DOWN SOFTLY
by A.A. Cristi - Jul 10, 2018

It is with great excitement that the Irish Heritage Theatre announces our Fall 2018 production Lay Me Down Softly by Billy Roche. After a highly successful and critically acclaimed 'Women of Ireland' season last year featuring By the Bog of Cats (several critics' awards including third place overall in Best Actor (Female) category and our first Barrymore Recommended production) and The Women of Ireland, a risky choice of short classics (Riders  to the Sea and Cathleen Ni Houlihan) mixed with a few absurdist contemporary Irish pieces directed by three female directors, we now turn to a season dedicated to The Irish Family. The phrase, 'You can't choose your family' springs to mind immediately.
