If you're wondering whether or not 2013 was a fantastic year for the cabaret art form in New York, all you have to do is scan the amazing list of nominees for this year's BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards and you'll know it was one of the best ever. So now it's time for all you cabaret performers and fans to vote for the best singers, musicians, songs, and shows of the year. Voting will continue until Sunday night January 5 and the winners will be announced later that week. We hope that all the winners will be able to perform in the Award show on Sunday night February 23 at Joe's Pub.

Join us for a night of Star Wars themed burlesque acts and clips from the actual 1978 fiasco. George Lucas has reportedly said: 'If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every copy of that show and smash it.' We are so proud to own a copy!

The Peninsula Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Three Eras of Jazz and Symphonic Synergy with Concerts, 1/17-1/18

Los Altos, CA, November 22, 2013 – With a signature flair for programming and a nod to three of history's great jazz artists who are equally at home in the symphonic scene, Music Director and conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein has programmed an evening of music by Bay Area composer/pianist Taylor Eigsti and his artistic predecessors Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin in two performances January 17 and 18. The program includes the world premieres of new works by Bay Area native and internationally recognized jazz artist Taylor Eigsti along with Eigsti performing Gershwin's game-changing Rhapsody in Blue and a special tribute to late Bay Area composer/pianist and jazz innovator Dave Brubeck in works to be announced featuring Eigsti and saxophonist Dayna Stephens. Rounding out the evening will be Gershwin's overtures to Girl Crazy and Strike Up the Band. The concert will be given Friday, Janaury 17, at 8 pm at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and Saturday, January 18, at 8 pm at Flint Center/DeAnza College. Tribute to Witold Lutoslawski with ACME and Steven Stucky Set for 12/13 at Symphony Space

On Friday, December 13 at 7:30 pm, Symphony Space presents a centennial tribute to pioneering Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski (1913 - 1994). The American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) will perform a selection of his chamber works, along with pieces by Steven Stucky, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and author of the critical biography Lutoslawski and His Music. The concert will be streamed live on Q2 Music, WQXR's online station devoted to contemporary classical music, and will include a conversation with Stucky and Symphony Space's Artistic Director, Laura Kaminsky.

Museum of the Moving Image pays tribute to the legacy of filmmaking in Astoria with an exhibition that traces the history of the Astoria studio, a local landmark with deep roots in the culture of New York City. Lights, Camera, Astoria!, on view from today, October 26, 2013, through February 9, 2014, explores each phase of the site from its start as Paramount Pictures's East Coast production facility in the 1920s, a center for independent filmmaking in the 1930s, the U.S. Army Pictorial Center from World War II into the Cold War, the site's rebirth in the late 1970s, to the present day Kaufman Astoria Studios, a thriving motion picture and television studio, and a vibrant cultural hub that includes Museum of the Moving Image, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and restaurants and cafes.

New inscriptions to the nation's only Nobel Monument were unveiled on September 22 by NYC Parks Commissioner Veronica M. White, Ambassador of Sweden to the U.S. Bjorn Lyrvall, Ambassador of Norway to the U.S. Kare Aas, and Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry of 2012. Also in attendance was Dr. Peter Agre, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry of 2003; Dr. Robert Wilson, Nobel Laureate in Physics of 1978; Dr. Lee Goldman, Dean of the Columbia University Medical Center; Jean Donahue, principal at the Bronx High School of Science; as well as several members of the New York Academy of Sciences and faculty from New York University and Columbia University. Symphony Space's In the Salon series gets underway on Friday, October 18 (7:30 pm) in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia with a program devoted to Benjamin Britten's music, in celebration of the composer's centenary year. Tenor Rufus Müller and guitarist David Leisnerjoin forces to present a rare performance of Britten's complete oeuvre for the combination. This ravishing and often profound body of work was written for Britten's life partner, Peter Pears, and their friend, guitarist Julian Bream. It comprises Folk Song Arrangements (Vol. 6),Songs from the Chinese, and The Second Lute Song of the Earl of Essex from Gloriana. The program also includes Nocturnal for solo guitar (1963), an acknowledged masterpiece of the genre. It is presented in collaboration with Guitar Plus

A lineup of top entertainers including, Julie Andrews, Lucie Arnaz, Tony Bennett, Tim Conway, Tina Fey, Rashida Jones, Vicki Lawrence, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Rosemary Watson and others will salute Carol Burnett at the 16th Annual Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. The evening will pay tribute the humor and accomplishments of Carol Burnett, and will be taped by WETA Washington, D.C. as Carol Burnett: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize. Delusional, she believes she is King Joffrey and that tonight's Hosty Totsy show is a bachelor party. Cherry - as Joffrey - plots how to out do the Red Wedding, while the cast tries to keep sharp objects away from her. The show must go on and the gals from the Home For Wayward Girls and Fallen Women do their best to show 'Joffrey' a good time.

The Major League Baseball All-Star break (the game is on Tuesday night) has always been considered the midpoint of the season and as a lifelong fan I've always enjoyed reading those analyses from writers that assess the best performances of the first half. Since July is also the middle of the calendar year, I thought it might be fun to present a cabaret equivalent of a baseball midseason report. So . . . (drum roll) . . . presenting the Best (and My Favorite) 20 New York Cabaret Shows and Performances of (the first half) of 2013.
