EVERYDAY EPIPHANIES: PHOTOGRAPHY AND DAILY LIFE SINCE 1969 to Open 6/25 at Met Museum

Since the birth of photography in 1839, artists have used the medium to explore subjects close to home-the quotidian, intimate, and overlooked aspects of everyday existence. Everyday Epiphanies: Photography and Daily Life Since 1969, an exhibition of 40 works at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, presents photographs and videos from the last four decades that examine these ordinary moments. It will be on view June 25, 2013 through January 26, 2014 in the Joyce and Robert Menschel Hall for Modern Photography.

On the occasion of the 104th anniversary of Katherine Dunham's birth, Museum of the Moving Image will present a work-in-progress screening of a new documentary about the pioneering modern dancer and choreographer, by renowned actor and director Terry Carter (Battlestar Galactica, Julia), and followed by a town-hall discussion about Dunham's legacy with Carter and two celebrated Dunham dancers, Julie Belafonte and Dr. Glory Van Scott. The discussion will be moderated by Warrington Hudlin, a Museum trustee and former Dunham drummer. The program on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at3:00 p.m. is part of Changing the Picture, sponsored by Time Warner, Inc., an ongoing series that celebrates and explores the work of film and television artists of color who are bringing diverse voices to the screen.

Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis will collaborate on A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Story, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, announced Arlene Shuler, President & CEO of New York City Center. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, and conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle, will run for seven performances, November 13 - 17 at City Center. City Center's annual Gala Benefit will take place on Thursday, November 14 and will include a post-performance dinner at the Plaza Hotel.

Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck.
