BURLINGTON, VT—Today, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to announce new philanthropic leadership, effective in July, with the arrival of Mary Ellen (Mel) Reis. Ms. Reis will become Senior Director of Philanthropy and Communications for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Reis began her career as a member of the new product development team in marketing for Snapple Beverage Group. She returned to her roots in Vermont and has spent years working with the non-profit and education sector in development, innovative and successful fundraising, and marketing strategies in the Northeast Kingdom. Her knowledge of, experience with, and passion for the arts in Vermont, as well as the philanthropic community, are substantial.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) showcases the interplay of music and film with 'LACO @ the Movies: An Evening of Disney Silly Symphonies,' a program of dazzling and delightful Academy Award-winning animation created by Walt Disney Studios between 1929 and 1939, with orchestral scores performed live by Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra led by six-time Emmy award-winning composer Mark Watters, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, 7 pm, at the historic Orpheum Theatre movie palace in downtown Los Angeles. A pre-concert talk at 7:00 p.m. features Glenda Dawn Goss of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
The Metropolitan Opera's 2016-17 season, the 50th anniversary of its home at Lincoln Center, will feature 225 opera performances of 26 operas in a varied repertory that ranges from 18th century masterpieces to one of the most acclaimed operas in recent years. BERLIN, VT-At its September 2015 board meeting in the offices of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Governing Board of Directors approved their new officers and elected new board members. The four three-year term members new to the board are Jim Girardin of Burlington, Cathy Stadecker of Burlington, Dirk Elston of St. Johnsbury and Betsy Bloomer of Rutland. “The level of experience and commitment these newly elected board members bring to the Vermont Symphony Orchestra is truly gratifying,” noted Board chair Victoria Young. “The breadth of talent will insure that the strategic and artistic directions created will continue taking the VSO in the right direction.” Officers elected were Victoria Young, Chair; Barbara Wessel, Vice-chair; Ginny Roth, secretary and Perez Ehrich, treasurer.
