In his earliest memory, my grandfather is four years old. The year is 1919 and he stands on his tenement building in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where he watches an army parade. Soldiers are returning from the Great War, and eternal peace on Earth seems possible.

Actor/cabaret singer Stephanie Trudeau will perform a return engagement of her docu-cabaret, 'Chavela: Think Of Me,' at Pangea Supper Club, 178 Second Ave. (East Village), June 26 at 7:30 PM. She had debuted the piece there on May 15 and has been invited back in response to the appreciation of her audience and an enthusatic review.

'Eric Bentley's Brecht-Eisler Songbook,' the debut CD from soprano actress Karyn Levitt, will be available from Roven Records today, October 30.

The 18th Long Island Al Jolson Festival coming up on August 16 is a whole-day affair featuring film presentations, lectures, memorabilia displays and sales, and a performance--'The Heart of Al Jolson'--by singer and Staten Island native Tony Babino (photo below), who can sing Jolson songs like, well, you ain't heard nothin' yet.
