The Fisher Center at Bard has revealed its SummerScape 2024 programming, running June 20 – August 18, 2024.

Naxos is presenting San Francisco-based guitarist Christopher Mallett's new release championing the music of Justin Holland, America's first Black classical guitarist who made his name during the time of slavery. Titled Justin Holland, Guitar Works and Arrangements, “trailblazer' Mallett (The St. Louis Dispatch) deftly performs on this landmark recording featuring several world premieres.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has announced its 2023-24 season, which celebrates the passing of the artistic torch and the theme of Legacy, with the final farewell concerts of two esteemed American string quartets, both with long histories at CMS.

This opera buffa composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is the piece produced by the Wrocław Opera as part of the Opera Of The Young program after Don Giovanni and Cossi Fan Tutte. Director André Heller-Lopes put on a very classic show with superb set design by Renato Theobaldo. It is red and gold, intense, full of depth and density of the castle rooms. In the final act, the castle turns into ruby wood. Still magnificent. Kerosene lamps arranged around the revolving stage added 100 points to the charm of the scenography.

The upcoming performances include three more piano concertos as part of the David M. Hicks Mozart Piano Series, two movies as part of the Symphonic Night at the Movies series, and tributes to Whitney Houston and Judy Garland, and the music of the iconic rock band Queen.

Toronto's Eybler Quartet is internationally-renowned for brilliant performances as well as for an unquenchable passion for delving deep into the works of obscure composers of the Classical era, such as Vanhal, Backofen, and Eybler. The period-instrument ensemble has also attracted attention for uncovering gleaming new revelations from the “big three” Classical composers – Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven – earning raves, while ruffling a few feathers among traditionalists.

On October 23 the Lied Center for Performing Arts will be filled to the magnificent chandelier with glorious sets, costumes, music, and 52 cast members and musicians, making this one of the largest touring productions. San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock today announced repertory and casting for the Company's 97th Season, opening Friday, September 6, 2019, with a gala performance of Charles Gounod's Romeo and Juliet (Rom o et Juliette) starring tenor Bryan Hymel and soprano Nadine Sierra in Op ra de Monte-Carlo Director Jean-Louis Grinda's production. Poor Beaumarchais. A crucial friend of the American Revolution, French playwright Pierre Beaumarchais's great Figaro comedies have been both favored and scorned by history. Just two years after The Marriage of Figaro premiered in Paris, Mozart's 1786 adaptation eclipsed the theater version, remaining one of opera's supreme masterworks to this day. And the Rossini version of the first Figaro play, THE BARBER OF SEVILLE, has a been an operagoer's favorite ever since its Rome premiere in 1816.

Legend has it there were five encores at the triumphant Viennese premiere of Mozart and da Ponte's Le Nozze di Figaro on May 1, 1786. By the same token, Washington National Opera's new production of the effervescent comic opera deserved just as many ovations. Now playing through Sunday, October 2 in the Kennedy Center Opera House, THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO with Mozart's bubbly score and de Ponte's delicious libretto sparkles as bright as ever. The cast of first class singing-actors and the prime conducting skills of James Gaffigan are reason enough to take a seat for this masterpiece.
