REDCAT, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, announces adventurous international and LA performances featured in the ambitious new Fall 2018 season at REDCAT, including stunning stagecraft and object theater from Rotterdam, the world premiere of a new dance and video work by LA company David Rousseve/Reality, a slyly funny and poignant collaboration by German/British collective Gob Squad with six LA performers, a hilarious political musical-theater project by art collective My Barbarian, and the return of Christiane Jatahy with a Brazilian take on Chekhov's Three Sisters, which uses genius film techniques.

The Artistic Home Announces 2018-19 Season

The Artistic Home Ensemble will present the Chicago premiere of Lauren Gunderson's ADA AND THE ENGINE as the final entry in its three-play 2018-19 season, according to company Artistic Director Kathy Scambiatterra, who announced the season today. The 36-year-old Gunderson was the most-produced playwright in America during 2017, according to American Theatre Magazine.

From Amos Lee and Andrew Bird, to Graham Nash, Ziggy Marley and Mary Chapin Carpenter, this year's lineup presents a diverse mix of performers across genres that appeal to every music fan. Laughter also returns to the stage with comedian Paula Poundstone and Boulder's own poet and activist Andrea Gibson.

Legendary ballet costume designer HOLLY HYNES and costume and scenic designer ZACK BROWN are among the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients which were just announced by TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. Ms. Hynes was selected to receive the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Brown will receive the Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through TDF's Costume Collection. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).

New Documentary Film “parTy boi: black diamonds in ice castles” Exposes Hidden Drug Epidemic within Urban LGBTQ Community

New documentary, parTy boi: black diamonds in ice castles, will premiere on May 7, 2017. The film project focuses on methamphetamine addiction within the LGBTQ community of color, and explores a drug epidemic that is affecting the lives of Black and Latino gay millennials at an alarming rate. Directed by Micheal Rice, parTy boi was designed to spark debate and educate LGBTQ youth around the world about crystal meth and drug addiction. The premiere screening and cocktail Q&A event takes place on May 7th at 7:30pm - ImageNation Cinema, 2031 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. New York, NY 10027. Tickets will be available at the box office window prior to the viewing. Admission: $20.

Riccardo Muti Conducts the Chicago Symphony in Three Weeks of Subscription Concerts

Music Director Riccardo Muti returns in April to lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in three weeks of subscription concerts.  Muti and the CSO conclude the CSO's season-long presentation of Beethoven's piano concertos in a performance of the Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) with Radu Lupu as soloist followed by a rare performance of A Symphony to Dante's Divine Comedy by Liszt (April 27-29 ). Muti's residency with the CSO culminates with performances of the complete cycle of symphonies by Johannes Brahms (May 4-9 and May 11-13). During his residency, Muti also leads the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in a free, open rehearsal on April 30.

THE 39 STEPS adapted by Patrick Barlow a reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock's famous film of the same title, is a theatrical tour-de-force punctuated by over-the-top Monty Python-ish melodrama.  Set in 1930s England and Scotland, the play, performed by only four actors, tells the story of a dapper London man (Richard Hannay) who tries to prevent a top-secret agent from stealing classified air-defense information. After the agent's sudden inexplicable murder, our hero Richard remains  the only suspect and is forced to go on the run with an attractive and suave companion in attempts to clear his name.
