In the "Just So Stories," Rudyard Kipling created a magical world as he told his daughter fables of the animal kingdom. In "Just So," George Stiles and Anthony Drewe ("Honk!") have created a new musical that weaves five of Mr. Kipling's most famous tales together into a fanciful lesson about personal courage, individuality and friendship.

There are certain occasions when even the most jaded New York audience can just smile and say thank you. The duo recital by soprano Renee Fleming and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham Sunday night at Carnegie Hall was just such an occasion. Given that both divas have sold out Carnegie Hall as individual performers, the dual recital was something very special indeed.
For the first time ever, BBC AMERICA will premiere Top Gear, the world's biggest car show, in the US only days after the UK. Top Gear premieres Monday, February 4, 9:00pm ET/PT on BBC AMERICA.
I missed the debut and broadcast of Andre Previn's operatic setting of Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire" from the San Francisco Opera back in 1998. But I can't say that anything I've read would compel me choose it over a couple of hours with Brando and Leigh on TCM or even a less than stellar [Stella?] production of the play. The fact is, how can Previn's score compare with the music of Williams?

"I am so glad that the Gellhorn and Cowles Estates granted us the rights for this prodcuction," says Rebecca Greene Udden, Main Street Theater's Executive Artistic Director. The internationally acclaimed singing group Straight No Chaser will bring their signature vocal stylings and a little bit of the holiday spirit to The McCallum Theatre on December 4 at 8:00 pm as part of Fitz's Jazz Cafe Series. If the phrase "male a cappella group" conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs, think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. As original member Randy Stine comments, "We take the music very seriously; we just don't take ourselves too seriously."
