A young songwriter Ben Shapiro is trying to make it as a Broadway composer, where his grandfather couldn't. Ben's father wants him to follow in his footsteps as a lawyer. Instead, Ben follows his heart and stages a reading of his grandfather's unfinished musical about a struggling composer at a swanky Miami resort in 1948.

Here are shows that I am looking forward to seeing, and remember I am a musical theatre lover who likes to sprinkle in a play or two - here and there - so don't get mad if I don't choose one of the plays you are looking forward to seeing. Phantom Fan Week: I'll resist the temptation to write 'Phantom Phans' but, in truth, even though I am very used to fans, I've never seen anything quite like this. The deal was that fans of Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular (the very aptly named version of the show at The Venetian) could come to Las Vegas and get total immersion in their favorite entertainment. There were behind-the-scenes tours, meet-and-greets with key people in the production, a masquerade ball, dinner with the producers and a farewell brunch. It was three days that fans of anything or anyone - show, actor, singer, sports team - would love. I was fortunate to attend five of the events and, herewith, my report.

New York City is filled with lovely parks. There's a particularly charming one tucked into a triangle on 106th Street and Broadway. It's planted with daylilies, impatiens, lacecap hydrangeas and dogwoods. One end of this peaceful oasis is dominated by a recumbent bronze sculpture which sits atop a flowing fountain. The park is dedicated to the memory of Isidore and Ida Strauss, the loving couple who perished together on the Titanic in 1912. Therefore it's appropriate to meet Victoria Clark for an interview at a café only a short distance from Strauss Park. After all, Ms Clark originated the role of Alice Beane in Maury Yeston's Tony Award winning musical TITANIC and sang Adam Guettel's 'Statues and Stories' in LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, which won her the 2005 Tony Award as Best Actress in a Musical. This fine lady is never really far from statues, stories and the Titanic.

No...I am not talking about the Tony Awards...although I know where I will be that evening. NY Artists Unlimited presents Huck DeMilo (the Man in the Butterfly Fly Mask) & BRONZE FONDUE on Wednesday, February 4, at 8:30 p.m., St. Mark's Church, 131 E. 10 St. (2nd Ave.). The Fondue is made up of a wacky band of NYU profs, who entertain with their unique brand of music and comedy. The performance is highly interactive and you never know what might happen! Band members jump in with silly costumes and do mock-rock comedy with Huck's music that harkens back to the '60s in NYC and the U.K. The Fondue Experience was born at NY Artists Unlimited's homebase -- Downeast Arts Center -- in 2005 and it's been raging on ever since.
