Universally hailed as the reigning King of the Blues, the legendary B.B. King will perform three UK concerts in Manchester, Edinburgh and London in June 2011.

In the roughly five years between November of 1935 and December of 1940, the team of Rodgers and Hart opened nine new musicals on Broadway.  These included revolutionary shows like On Your Toes, which changed the use of dance in musical theatre, and the underappreciated Pal Joey, which brought new sophistication to the characters and themes that could be featured in a musical.  There were also popular hits like Babes In Arms, The Boys From Syracuse, Jumbo and Too Many Girls that introduced classic American songbook entries like 'My Funny Valentine,' 'The Lady Is A Tramp,' 'Falling In Love With Love,' 'My Romance' and 'I Didn't Know What Time It Was.'

Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Shepherd reads the narrating role of Nick Carraway, which I'm guessing is roughly 75% of the text in this theatre piece which, at the performance I attended, began at 3pm and let out around 11:20, allowing for two fifteen minute intermissions and an hour and fifteen minute dinner break.

Havoc is part of the cast of the sequel, 'Broadway: BEYOND the Golden Age,' opening in 2011. June was a lifetime veteran of show business, starring in Vaudeville in the 1920's, going on to great success on Broadway and in Hollywood, while unfortunately being known best as the inspiration for 'Baby June' in her sister Gypsy Rose Lee's autobiography 'Gypsy,' which became one of the most successful Broadway musicals ever created. But, this clip will give you an idea of her passion for the business - and for life - that was with her well into her 90's. June and I had numerous meetings in the 1990's about turning her story into a documentary, but our schedules never jibed and I made 'Broadway: The Golden Age' instead, including her. But, what I did make was a great friend, and I spent many nights there getting to know June. She was incredibly inspiring and life-affirming and I will miss her greatly . . . .'
