Imagine a world where the printed word is forbidden; it may by closer than you think. The first rehearsals for Jordan Harrison's cautionary tale Futura, directed by Kip Fagan, are now underway at Portland Center Stage. Futura begins previews on Tuesday, February 1, opens Friday, February 4, and runs Tuesday through Sunday until March 27. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and select Thursday matinees at noon. Tickets start at $30, with student and under-age-30 discounts available. Rush tickets are $20 each. A great annual Columbus tradition continues as Ronald J. Jenkins leads the Columbus Symphony and Chorus in some of the season's most-loved holiday songs and carols. The event will also include performances by the Columbus Children's Choir, violinist Charles Wetherbee, dancers Justin Gibbs and Darien Crago, narrator Linda Dorff, baritone Daniel Maceyak, and several children from BalletMet with a special guest appearance by Santa.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Al Pacino's star power has earned The Merchant of Venice the winners spot for the fall's highest advance generating show. The production, which opens at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 7, 2010, has reportedly taken in approximately $4M, beating out all incoming fall plays and musicals.
