EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL Returns for Fourth Year at City Theatre, Now thru 10/26

The Ringwald and Olympia Entertainment are thrilled to be bringing the hilariously, bloody Evil Dead: The Musical back to Detroit for its fourth annual engagement. In honor of the cult classic's Detroit world premiere in October 1981, the musical will perform a four week engagement starting tonight, October 2 through Saturday, October 26 at Detroit's City Theatre; located inside Hockeytown Cafe at 2301 Woodward Avenue.

MSO Opens Pop Season with Ella, Louis and All That Jazz, 10/11

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra opens the 2013.14 Pops season with Ella, Louis, and All That Jazz on October 11-13, 2013 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Guest conductor Jeff Tyzik leads the orchestra, featuring Byron Stripling, trumpet; Marva Hicks, vocalist; and Robert Breithaupt, drums. In tribute to Ella, Satchmo, and Fats Waller, the concerts include favorites such as S'Wonderful, It Don't Mean a Thing, What a Wonderful World, and selections from Gershwin's Porgy & Bess.

Ed Asner and Hollywood Celebrities Set for Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention 9/19-21

Ed Asner is a television legend, the winner of seven acting Emmy Awards (which ties him with Mary Tyler Moore, both of whom rank second to their Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) co-star, Cloris Leachman who has nine). In all, he has been nominated 20 times for an Emmy Award, with 17 nods for a Primetime Emmy and three for a Daytime award. (All of his wins were for primetime.) As well as being one of the most outstanding and most respected actors of his generation, equally adept at comedy as he is at drama, Asner also made a name for himself as a trade unionist and a political activist. He served two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild, from 1981-1985. Because of his busy schedule, Ed Asner rarely makes public appearances solely to meet and greet fans. From September 19 to 21, 2013, Asner will be among the celebrities at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention, devoting his time for fans of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Elf, Hawaii Five-O, Up and numerous other accomplishments. Asner will dedicate a minimum of eight hours a day for each of the three days, posing for photographs with fans, signing autographs and participating in a question and answer session on stage. The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention is a three-day festival where television and movie lovers from around the world can gather to watch premiere screenings of rare motion-pictures and documentaries, meet and greet iconic Television and Hollywood actors, and learn more about the by-gone era of Hollywood cinema. This year marks the eighth year for the Convention. Attendees from all over the country (and the globe including Belgium, Finland, Canada and the United Kingdom) who attended past events met such celebrities as Shirley Jones, Patty Duke, James Darren, David Hedison, Davy Jones and many others. Ed Asner will be joined this year with Julie Newmar (Batman, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), Johnny Crawford (The Rifleman), Larry Storch (F Troop), Elizabeth Shepherd (The Avengers), Robert Loggia (Big, Independence Day, The Sopranos), and Academy Award winning actress Margaret O'Brien (The Secret Garden, Meet Me in St. Louis). MADCO Presents MILLS/works at New York Live Arts, Now thru 7/13

From today, July 11 to 13 at New York Live Arts, Modern American Dance Company (MADCO) from St. Louis, MO will perform 'MADCO performs MILLS/works,' an evening of dances choreographed by former company member Joseph Mills. Mills performed with MADCO from 1981-1987. Subsequently, he was a member of MOMIX and The ERick Hawkins Dance Company and has performed and choreographed independently since 1990. Since 2000, he has frequently returned to St. Louis to create works for MADCO. In this program, MADCO will offer three of his works, one being a world premiere, and an audience favorite danced by Mr. Mills that was choreographed by Alan Boeding.

Mostly Mozart Festival 2013 at Lincoln Center: Final Week Features Emerson String Quartet & More!

The 2013 Mostly Mozart Festival comes to a close in its fourth week, with more than 10 events taking place between August 19 and August 24. The final week begins with a special chamber music concert by the celebrated Emerson String Quartet, 7:00pm on August 19 at Alice Tully Hall. The ensemble, which made its first Festival appearance in 1983 and has performed nearly every season since that time, makes its highly anticipated first New York City appearance with its newest member, cellist Paul Watkins. The Emerson String Quartet will add to the Festival's overarching focus on Beethoven by performing all three of Beethoven's famed "Razumovsky" Quartets: String Quartet in F major, Op. 59; String Quartet in E minor, Op. 59; and String Quartet in C major, Op. 59.

Lincoln Center Announces 2013 White Light Festival Lineup, 10/24-11/23

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the roster for Lincoln Center's fourth multidisciplinary White Light Festival, October 24 through November 23, 2013. The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. Other Festival components include: a panel discussion focused on the subject of time, pre- and post-performance artist discussions, and the popular post-performance White Light Lounges.

Film Society of Lincoln Center Announces 2013 New York Asian Film Festival Lineup

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema in association with Japan Society announce the full schedule today for the 2013 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) which will screen June 28 - July 15. The popular film festival will showcase over 60 feature films with filmmakers and celebrity guests travelling from Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan to attend the festival. Also announced were special focuses for this year's edition of NYAFF including a celebration of the career of Korean star Ryoo Seung-Beom and new works from the Philippines (joining the previously announced focuses on Hong Kong cinema, Taiwan pulp and a salute to Well Go USA).

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced complete casting for Hairspray in Concert, featuring some of Seattle's favorite musical theatre stars and the powerful voices of the 250-member Seattle Men's Chorus. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hairspray's 2002 Broadway debut, this unique concert event will play for six very special performances of glorious and irreverent John Waters-inspired wackiness (Friday-Sunday, June 20-23). In 2002, Hairspray was The 5th Avenue Theatre's first world premiere musical to head for Broadway where it won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical and launched The 5th's unprecedented track record for sending new works to New York. Now the smash hit musical comes home, as audiences have never seen it before.

Due to increased demand, the International Jazz Day event Louis Armstrong at Freedomland: Never Before Heard Recordings of an American Icon, a Listening Session & Lecture on April 30th has been relocated to the Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center located at 10001 Northern Boulevard, Corona, NY 11368. The program presented by the Louis Armstrong House Museum and the Jazz Journalists Association was originally to be held at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Corona. The event is free and open to the public and includes a soul food reception; the program begins at 2:00 pm.
