Entering its seventh season in 2015-16, CONTACT!, the Philharmonic's new-music series, will extend its reach across New York City through a new partnership with National Sawdust (formerly Original Music Workshop), a new, non-profit, state-of-the-art music venue opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in October 2015.

A sextival, if you will.

Park Avenue Armory has commissioned dance pioneer Reggie (Regg Roc) Gray and visionary director Peter Sellars to create a performance piece that evolves the tradition of flex, the Brooklyn-born street dance. Characterized by sharp, rhythmic contortion, pausing, snapping, gliding, bone-breaking, and animated showmanship, the flex form evolved from the Jamaican bruk-up style popular in the dance halls and reggae clubs of Brooklyn in the 1990s. Opening today, March 25 and marking the first major presentation of the Armory's 2015 artistic season, FLEXN transforms the dance from its individual, combative style to create a collaborative work of social commentary inspired by both personal experience and current events. A series of public discussions and education initiatives complement the presentation.

Legendary musicians, top artists, and filmmakers -- including Annie Lennox, Harry Belafonte, Oscar winner Laura Poitras, Jesse Williams, Piper Kerman, and MTV World GM Nusrat Durrani -- will join Amnesty International USA's executive director Steven W. Hawkins this weekend at the annual gathering in Brooklyn for the re-launch of one of the organization's pillar programs -- Art for Amnesty.

White Road Dance Media, a contemporary dance company based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, will premiere Marisa Gruneberg's 12th full-length contemporary dance work, Neon Brave, at Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn on February 19, 2015. GoPro cameras will be attached to dancers, i.e. the audience will see 'what the dancers see' via projections, including the nude soloist, for a different type of audience immersion. A quartet of women investigate life's challenges, becoming alternately entangled and inter-reliant, empowered and individualized.

Emmy Award-winning actor Bradley Whitford ('Transparent,' 'Trophy Wife') brings some daddy issues to the Nine-Nine as he is set to guest-star as Jake Peralta's (Andy Samberg) father. Captain Roger Peralta, a regional airline pilot, is a charming guy with a history of letting Jake down. But Jake is hoping that will all change when he comes to town for a father-son weekend in Brooklyn. Whitford will first be seen in the episode airing Sunday, March 8 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

On­­­­ Friday, September 12 and Sunday, September 14 at 7:30 PM, AOP (American Opera Projects) will present these and other excerpts of new operas at COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2014, the culmination of this season's Composers & the Voice (C&V) opera training program. Audiences will see scenes by five emerging composers - Guy Barash, Avner Finberg, Jeremy Gill, Andreia Pinto-Correia, Gity Razaz - and one composer/librettist team, Joseph Rubinstein and Jason Kim, who were chosen by AOP to spend a year creating new works focusing on the operatic voice. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the fall of Apartheid in South Africa, BRIC is pleased to present a screening of Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony(2002) at the Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, which is presented by Squarespace, on July 25. The screening is part of the Festival's Music & Movies series, which pairs live music with iconic films projected onto the Festival's enormous screen - the largest outdoor screen in New York City. South African musician Neo Muyanga will kick off the event at 7:30 P.M with a live performance of his score to William Kentridge's short film Second-hand Reading (2013). The evening is free to the public (with a suggested $3 contribution at the gate).

Michael Cerveris, Isaiah Johnson, Randy Newman, Laura Osnes, Vonda Shepard, Brooklyn Shuck, Tony Vincent and Broadway Inspirational Voices have been cast in Randy Newman's Faust: The Concert, which will be performed tonight, July 1 as the second Encores! Off-Center presentation of the 2014 season. Faust will be directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Marcos Santana. Jeanine Tesori is the Encores! Off-Center artistic director; Chris Fenwick is its music director.
