It's Christmas Eve, 1946, and we are the studio audience for a local radio station as its cast of voice actors and one very busy sound effects man broadcast the beloved tale of George Bailey and his encounter with Clarence, his guardian angel. Gregory Boyd, Artistic Director of the Alley Theatre, announces the cast and creative team of the Hubbard Theatre season opener, William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Alley's 22nd Shakespearean production celebrates the new stage enhancements with an expansive set, live music and 43 detailed costumes outfitting a full 19-member cast. The production features members of the Resident Acting Company and begins October 7 and runs through November 5. Chicago's historic Studebaker Theater will become the home of live opera with a contemporary adaptation of Henry Purcell's 1692 "The Fairy Queen," a reimagining of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" presented by Chicago Opera Theater (COT) beginning November 5. The California-based performance troupe Culture Clash and COT's Andreas Mitisek put a modernized spin on Purcell's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic with an edgy and hilarious examination of the messes mere mortals make of relationships. "The Fairy Queen" will be performed at Chicago's historicStudebaker Theater (410 S. Michigan Ave). The press performance will be November 5 at 7:30 p.m.Subsequent performances will be November 11 at 7:30 p.m. and November 13 at 3 p.m.

Award-winning comedian, actor, writer and director Harry Enfield will play Hollywood studio boss Glogauer in Richard Jones' production of Once in a Lifetime from 25 November in the Young Vic's Main House. Joining Enfield in the company are Daniel Abelson, Claudie Blakley, Okorie Chukwu, Lucy Cohu, Lizzy Connolly, Buffy Davis, Otto Farrant, Amy Griffiths, Amanda Lawrence and John Marquez. Further casting is still to be announced.
Joe Hill-Gibbins returns to the Young Vic and to Shakespeare following his critically acclaimed Measure for Measure in 2015. A Midsummer Night's Dream will play the Young Vic's Main House 17 February - 1 April.
