What happens when seven jealous brothers hatch a nefarious plot to dispose of younger brother Joseph, their father's favorite son? Although the plot of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat may seem more like a 21st century reality show than something based on a Bible story, this rollicking musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice is pure family entertainment. A multi-generational cast from Paul's Players will produce this popular show tonight, July 26, 27, and 28, 2012, 7:30 p.m., at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 27475 Five Mile Road, Livonia. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $6 for seniors and students.

High school students from across Washington State packed The 5th Avenue Theatre last night (June 4) for The 10th Annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater, a high school version of the Tony Awards sponsored by Wells Fargo. The house was packed with 2,100 teenagers in costume representing their schools' musical theater productions, who cheered for their peers as they performed musical excerpts and accepted awards honoring top student achievements in musical theater. The acclaimed program brought previous recipients from the last decade back to the stage (many of whom have gone on to successful arts careers locally and nationally) to hand out awards in 21 categories ranging from Outstanding Overall Musical Production to Outstanding Lobby Display. The Muny announced today principal casting for the third show of its 94th season, Disney's Aladdin (July 5-13), directed by Gary Griffin, and choreographed by Alex Sanchez.
Tony® Nominees Robin de Jesus and John Tartaglia star as Aladdin and the Genie, respectively. Joining them will be Jason Graae as Omar, Curtis Holbrook as Iago, Francis Jue as Kassim, Eddie Korbich as Babkak, Samantha Massell as Jasmine, Ken Page as the Sultan, and Thom Sesma as Jafar.
