Cutting Ball Theater continues its 15th season with Alfred Jarry's UBU ROI in a new translation by Rob Melrose. Russian director Yury Urnov (Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company) helms this irreverent take on world leaders. Featuring David Sinaiko, Ponder Goddard, Marilet Martinez, Bill Boynton, Nathaniel Justiniano, and Andrew Quick, UBU ROI plays tonight, January 24 through February 23 (Press opening: January 30) at the Cutting Ball Theater in residence at EXIT on Taylor (277 Taylor Street) in San Francisco. Smith Center Extends THE TEMPEST Through 4/20

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts has added an additional week of performances for the world premiere of a reimagined version of "THE TEMPEST" due to popular ticket demand, which will now play April 6-20. The Smith Center's first ever co-production, "THE TEMPEST" is produced by the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), adapted and directed by Aaron Posner and Teller from the play by William Shakespeare, with magic by Teller, music by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan and movement by Matt Kent of Pilobolus. "THE TEMPEST" performances will take place at The Smith Center's Donald W. Reynolds Symphony Park in a 500-seat climate-controlled tent, where no seat is more than 60 feet from the stage. Performances are scheduled Tuesday-Sunday at 8 p.m. with additional matinees at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Capital Stage continues its ninth season, THE HOMEFRONT: Soul-Stirring plays, with a love story told with the sharp wit of celebrated playwright Tom Stoppard. The 1984 Tony Award-winning play THE REAL THING illuminates the mysteries of love and the complexities of marriage. Capital Stage's production will be directed by Janis Stevens and will run from tonight, January 22, 2014 through February 23, 2014, with a press opening on January 25.

Conductor Robin Ticciati returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the first weekend of Emanuel Ax's Brahms Project, Friday, January 17, at 8 pm, as well as Saturday and Sunday, January 18 and 19, at 2 pm. All three performances feature Ligeti's rarely heard Melodien and Ax playing Brahms' monumental First Piano Concerto. Schumann's Symphony No. 1, 'Spring' will be played Saturday and Sunday.

The musical is about love, war, espionage and creative genius, and includes music written by Legere, who heads the cast of ten as Queen Elizabeth I. Director David Zen Mansley plays the Bard and trumpeter Rhys Tivey plays Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, the Queen's noble heartthrob. Nigel Redden, director of the Lincoln Center Festival, and Rebecca Robertson, President and Executive Producer, Park Avenue Armory, today announced that the two organizations will co-present The Passenger, Mieczyslaw Weinberg's uncompromising 1968 opera about the Holocaust, performed by Houston Grand Opera and directed by David Pountney, in its New York premiere performances July 10, 12 and 13 at Lincoln Center Festival 2014. Pountney's production will have its U.S. premiere on January 18, 2014 at Houston Grand Opera.
