Y York's SYCORAX to Make World Premiere at 18th & Union
Snowflake Avalanche and 18th & Union will present the world premiere of Y York's new play, SYCORAX, starring legendary Seattle actress Demene E. Hall.
SYCORAX performs just seven times - Friday, October 6 through Monday, October 9 and Thursday through Saturday, October 14. All performances will be held at 18TH & UNION: An Arts Space at 7:30 PM. Tickets may be obtained at 18thandunion.org or by calling 866-811-4111.
Betrayed by a mother, a lover, her son's lover, society, and the vicious lies that Prospero has foisted on the world, Sycorax makes an excellent case to the gods for revenge. Inspired by, but independent of, Shakespeare's The Tempest, this powerful monodrama offers a profound meditation on persecution, vengeance and forgiveness.
Playwright Y York recently returned to Seattle where audiences have seen her plays AFTERNOON OF THE ELVES, GETTING NEAR TO BABY, CRASH, FROG & TOAD (FOREVER), THE PORTRAIT THE WIND THE CHAIR, WITCH OF BLACKBIRD POND, NOTHING IS THE SAME, MASK OF THE UNICORN WARRIOR, & THE GARDEN OF RIKKI TIKKI TAVI at Seattle Children's Theatre, as well as IT COMES AROUND with Lori Larsen at Theatre Under the Influence and THE SNOWFLAKE AVALANCHE with Anthony Lee, Laurence Ballard, Olga Sanchez and Demene E. Hall at the Seattle Group Theatre. You can find out more at www.yyork.com.
Originally from Michigan, Demene E. Hall had a career as a singer and dancer in Los Angeles and on tour to Australia, Europe and Japan before settling in the Northwest in 1987. She has acted on virtually every major stage in Seattle, as well as appearing in film and television.
Snowflake Avalanche is a trade name used by Y York & Mark Lutwak to present the work of Y York.
