After a nearly 15 year absence, Terry Edward Moore, one of the founding company members of Seattle Shakespeare Company, returns to direct The Merry Wives of Windsor, the final production in the Company's 20th Anniversary season. Moore, along with Paul T. Mitri, served as co-artistic directors for Seattle Shakespeare Company from 1991-1996.

Tickets to The Merry Wives of Windsor are available now through the Seattle Shakespeare Company Box Office at 206-733-8222 as well as online at www.seattleshakespeare.org.

At the first rehearsal for the play, Moore commented that The Merry Wives of Windsor is "the most Elizabethan of Shakespeare's plays and Windsor is the only contemporary English setting Shakespeare used in all of his plays." To that end the production will feature a facsimile of the Blackfriar's theatre (the indoor winter playhouse of Shakespeare's acting troupe) recreated within the Center House Theatre space, and costumes inspired by Tudor period clothing. "With a nod to the conveniences of electricity for our lighting," said Moore, "we're utilizing live sound effects and music along with early stagecraft techniques to create an original practices production of Merry Wives."

This will be the second time that Seattle Shakespeare Company will have produced The Merry Wives of Windsor in its 20 year history. The play centers on that lovable rogue Falstaff after he takes up residence in the country town of Windsor hoping to drum up a bit of cash and mischief. After trying to seduce and swindle Mistress Ford and Mistress Page, the two ladies turn the tables on Falstaff to have a laugh at his expense.
