Taproot Theatre's Acting Studio Offers New Professional Actor Conservatory Class

Taproot Theatre's Acting Studio introduces the brand-new Professional Actor Conservatory class, Going Deeper with the Basics, this fall. Taught by esteemed actor and director Marianne Savell, students will learn techniques and skills from a master storyteller that will unlock new doors in their performance ability. Going Deeper with the Basics takes place on Mondays, October 25 through November 22, from 7 to 10 p.m., at Timberlake Church-Ballard, located at 1460 NW 73rd Street in Seattle.

Recently mentioned in the Wall Street Journal, Savell has years of experience directing and acting on stages along the West Coast and Chicago, teaching and coaching, and has served on the staff and boards of a number of theatre companies, including Hollywood's Actor's Co-op and South Coast Repertory Conservatory in Costa Mesa.

Savell will coach actors on scene work, teaching them to keys to delving into the core of characters and bringing out their wants, obstacles and actions to deepen the actors' storytelling skills and make the character come alive.

FALL 2010 FACT SHEET YOUTH CLASSES

Drama with Your Mama
It's never too early to introduce children to the world of theatre! This class will engage you and your young one with creative play, movement and theatre games. The focus is on social, physical and vocal awareness, in a warm, nurturing and FUN environment! Your little one will build confidence and explore their imagination. This class is perfect for the 1-3 year-old and their caregiver. Dressing up and silliness is welcome!
Ages 1-3 | Tuition: $75 per session or drop in for $15 per class
Seattle: Thursdays, Sept 9-Oct 14, 6 weeks 10-10:45 am
Shoreline: Thursdays, Sept 16-October 21, 6 weeks 11:30 am-12:15 pm

Dramatic Adventures
Acting is a tall order, with many skills required to create believable characters and situations, but this class breaks it all down for young actors, helping them learn each of the components of acting-words, emotions, thoughts, expressions and movement-in a fun and exciting way. With sessions for various age groups, ranging from Pre-K through third grade, each session is designed with lessons specifically targeted for your child's age. Children will be encouraged to use their imaginations as they work together to create their own play, which they'll perform for friends and family during the final class.
2 Sessions: Grades Pre-K & K | Grades 1st -3rd

Youth Actors' Workout
Just like playing a sport or speaking a second language, acting requires training and practice. Whether your child or teen is a beginning or advanced actor, Youth Actors' Workout will provide students with the experience they need to keep their skills sharp. Using improvisational exercises and scene work, Taproot's teachers will coach students in the techniques needed for acting, along with polishing each student's performance.
Grades: 4th-12th

Christmas Showcase
Think your kid or teen has what it takes to light up the stage? Give them a taste of the professional acting experience, from first rehearsal to final production, by signing them up for Christmas Showcase. Students will learn acting techniques during each class and put them into practice as they work together to put on a holiday production for friends and family. All levels welcomed; beginning students will learn the building blocks of acting while advanced students will be encouraged to stretch their acting skills and explore their range of characterization.
Grades: 4th-12th

Adult Showcase
You're never too old to develop your acting skills. After all, you do it all the time, whether you realize it or not, in interviews, presentations, and telling stories. Whether you're already an actor or you've never set foot on stage, embrace this opportunity to learn new techniques and develop your skills under professional tutelage tailored to your individual experience. You'll put it all together while participating in the rehearsal process and performance of a one-act play to be presented on Taproot's stage. A great option for first-timers and people with amateur experience!

Professional Actor Conservatory:
Going Deeper with the Basics
The magic key to acting is knowing what a character wants. This key leads to an exciting terrain of actions. For 5 weeks, practice these basics of wants, obstacles and actions as we approach them from different angles that will deepen your storytelling skills and give you the ease and confidence that you desire. This is a scene work class.
