Tacoma Children’s Musical Theater Presents SEUSSICAL! Closes 3/6

By:

TMP continues the exciting fifth season of the Tacoma Children's Musical Theater program with one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical. Presented by some of TMP's favorite adult Mainstage performers, TCMT produces fully-staged musicals based on classic children's literature. In this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, Tony Award-winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once On This Island) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and Jojo, a little boy with a big imagination. "Oh, the Thinks You Will Think" as the spirit of imagination transports the colorful characters from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos!

The story centers around Horton the Elephant, played by Sam Barker ("Nicely Nicely" of TMP's Guys & Dolls), who finds himself faced with a double challenge - not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (Leah Wickstrom, Hairspray). Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (Cherisse Martinelli, The Drowsy Chaperone) never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story that makes theatergoers of ALL ages laugh and cry.

Director Heather Malroy leads a cast of 26 TMP performers for four performances only! Seussical (Theater for Young Audiences Version) closes March 6, 2011. Performances take place at Tacoma Musical Playhouse, 7116 6th Avenue in Tacoma. All seating for TMP Mainstage and TCMT productions is reserved, so advance purchase is strongly recommended. TCMT performances do sell out in advance. Ticket prices range from $10-$15, and a group rate is available for groups of 10 or more. For tickets or more information, please visit www.tmp.org or call the TMP Box Office at 253-565-6867.
