Tacoma Musical Playhouse presents its final production of the 2011-12 Tacoma Children's Musical Theater season with Rudyard Kipling's seafaring classic, Captains Courageous. Based on both the novel and the classic Academy Award-winning 1937 film starring Spencer Tracy, Lionel Barrymore, Mickey Rooney and others, this timeless coming-of-age story is sure to please theatergoers ages 4-104!

In 1928, a millionaire's pampered son falls off an ocean liner and is rescued by a Portuguese fisherman, Manuel (played by South Sound favorite Micheal O-Hara). The boy must then spend the entire season at sea aboard a New England fishing schooner – and in the company of the burly, robust crew of the We're Here. Put to work in a pre-modern world of ropes, sails and fishing lines, the boy rebels and is soon branded a "Jonah" and blamed for the ship's bad luck. But with the help of Manuel, he wins over the crew and eventually learns the value of hard work, spirit, friendship and the true riches of life.

Directed by TMP's Maria Valenzuela, this new musical adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's unforgettable story (with book and lyrics by Patrick Cook and a fun-filled score by Frederick Freyer) features a full complement of TMP's male actors singing their way across the ocean to The Grand Banks, the Atlantic's ultimate fishing ground.

Captains Courageous runs for only SIX performances, performing Saturdays at 2pm and 5pm, and Sundays at 2 pm from April 14- 22, 2012.
