Seattle's BROWNBOX Theatre to Wreck the Airline Barrier

BROWNBOX Theatre in association with The Wrecking Crew will present the Seattle premier of Wreck the Airline Barrier, written by Adriano Shaplin and directed by Tyrone Brown.

Wreck the Airline Barrier is an exploration of new-age religion and middle-class race evasion rendered in a poly-vocal, chaotic style. It tells the simple story of three Americans who wake up, drive to the airport and board a passenger flight headed over the Atlantic. Later on, the plane will crash.

Director Tyrone Brown is Artistic Director and Founder of BROWNBOX Theatre. Directing credits include Hamlet X: The Tragedy of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (The Seattle Times 2005 Best Shakespeare) and Black To My Roots (Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe). He holds a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre from WesternWashingtonUniversity.

Playwright Adriano Shaplin is a co-founder of the acclaimed Riot Group in New York. He is the author of numerous plays including Switch Triptych (2005), Pugilist Specialist (2003) and Victory at the Dirt Palace (2002), all of which received the coveted Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Wrecking Crew includes Rob Bradstreet (Stage Manager), Carl Farrow (Video), Stuart McLeod (Music), Brendon Orth-Sheridan (Lighting) and Avianca Walker (Costume), and Wreck Cast Members Adrienne Greene (Stephanie), KB Mattison (Steve), Abdel Rodriguez (Stone) and Sharon Williams (Sarah).

BROWNBOX Theatre is an African American theatre company whose mission is the creation, development, and production of African American theatre. Founded in 2001 by Tyrone Brown, BROWNBOX Theatre is currently a program of The Shunpike Arts Collective and resident theatre company at the RainierValleyCulturalCenter.

The Wrecking Crew is a group of Seattle-based artists dedicated to presenting the work of Adriano Shaplin and The Riot Group.
