Seattle Musical Theatre closes out its 37th season with A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, the Tony Award-winning musical comedy of coliseum proportions, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart. With Director Vince Brady at the helm and music direction by Joel Kurzynksi, SMT's FORUM will be flavored with a vaudeville twist. Audiences will journey back to ancient Rome where the quick-witted slave Pseudolus tries to win his freedom by helping his young master Hero earn the love of a beautiful courtesan. FORUM boasts a hilarious evening of mistaken identities, star-crossed lovers, naughty innuendos, and a remarkable score featuring the show-stopping tunes "Comedy Tonight," "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid," "Lovely," and "Bring Me My Bride." Seattle Musical Theatre is proud to bring a trio of newcomers to its stage, Director Vince Brady, Music Director Joel Kurzynski, and Choreographer Brett Nugent. Brady was born in England and worked as an actor and director in the U.K. and Europe before settling in the Pacific Northwest. His work has been seen at Seattle Shakespeare Company, Greeenstage, Harlequin, Village Theater, SecondStory Rep and Centerstage, and also spent five years as Artistic Director of Exchange Theatre. Kurzynski recently played for Stage Right's A New Brain and directed Twelfth Night Productions' You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He has also accompanied shows including How to Succeed..., Into the Woods, Chess, and Guys & Dolls. Nugent a professional choreographer, dancer, singer and actor with over 25 years of experience, working with such legends as Whitney Houston, Latoya Jackson and Elton John. He's choreographed six productions at Teatro Zinzanni, including Hacienda Holiday in 2014.
FORUM's creative team also includes light and sound design by Caleb Dietzel, sets by Steve Cooper, props by Katt Carlson, and costumes by Julia Evanovich.
