Seattle Center Festal to Present TIBET FEST, 8/24-25

By:

Seattle Center Festál presents Tibet Fest, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Aug. 24 and 25, in Seattle Center Armory. Tibet's ancient and modern history is woven into the two-day festival, which seeks to preserve this centuries-old culture. Live performances, visual arts and crafts, hands-on activities, traditional foods, games, and a lively marketplace illuminate Tibet's extraordinary past and present.

In 2013, Tibet Fest features acclaimed International Artists Ngawang Kechog (Denver, Colo) and Loten Namling (Switzerland), former performers of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), Sonam Pelmo, Tashi Dhondup (Portland, Ore), and Tashi Thsering and Tsering Dorjee Bawa (San Francisco, Calif) and the children of Seattle's own Tibetan Language and Culture Class.

Tibetan food expert, Yangchen Lakar, and Himalyan Super Food owners will demonstrate Tsampa making process and audience members will be able to taste Tsampa, the staple food of Tibet, known sometimes as the national food of Tibet. Visitors may also join in a group dance and decorate prayer flags.

Seattle Center Festál, a series of 22 celebrations presented by community organizations with support from Seattle Center, considers themes of importance to ethnic cultures in our region, revealing their common forms of tradition and expression, while highlighting their unique contributions to the Pacific Northwest and the world.

Tibet Fest is produced in partnership with Tibetan Association of Washington. For more information on Tibet Fest, visit washingtontibet.org.
