Pony World Theatre Presents The West Coast Premiere Of WHAT WE WERE By Blake Hackler

Three sisters in an East Texas town have a dark family secret. As their relationship weaves from past to present, coping means finding a balance between escape and facing the truth. Spanning twenty years, WHAT WE WERE mixes procedural mystery with memory as these sisters learn that home isn't just where your heart is.

Directed by Charlotte Peters and featuring Seattle powerhouse actors Lisa Viertel, Peggy Gannon, Lauren Freman, and Tyler Bonnell, What We Were weaves scenes from the past and present in a meditation on what we do to cope with childhood abuse. After disappearing 17 years ago, Tessa (Freman), the youngest sister, resurfaces. It seems she has spent her adult life on the run, moving from state to state and foster family to foster family, pretending to be a teenage girl. When Nell (Viertel) gets word that Tessa, now 35, has finally been found out, Nell and Carlin (Gannon) must decide how much of their past they are willing to face in order to save their sister.

Pony World Theatre is especially proud to announce that the second weekend of performances (April 16 - 18) will raise funds for Mary's Place, a safe, inclusive shelter that supports women and families on their journey out of homelessness. Half of all ticket sales will be donated to Mary's Place.
