PLAY CAFE at WICA in Langley Invites Everyone to Explore Acting Tonight
By: BWW News Desk Jan. 07, 2015
Acting is fun, but to the beginning actor, it can be a little scary. Have you ever wanted to try acting on stage, but were too shy to audition? Come to the Play Café from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, Jan. 7 and explore acting in a stress-free environment. The Play Café at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in Langley provides a place for experienced, beginning and non-actors to gather and read a play together, without the pressure of performance. A director will be there to guide the play, so readers can also learn some performance techniques, while becoming acquainted with the ins and outs of play-reading. Participants will have fun, but also learn how to read the text carefully in order to know the story line, the facts of what happens, the place of one's character in relationship to moving the story along, the idea of what the play attempts to reveal, or how to approach the humor of a comedy piece. Learn how to listen to the language of the play, how to avoid the "dying fall" at the end of sentences and how to hear the "music" of the lines.
