MEET ME IN ST, LOUIS Opens 11/12 At The Village Theater

For the first time, Village Theatre will produce the vintage Hollywood classic, Meet Me in St. Louis. This production will have one preview performance in Issaquah on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, and will officially open the following day, running November 12-January 3, 2010 in downtown Issaquah, and January 8-31, 2010 in downtown Everett.

Artistic director Steve Tomkins directs and choreographs this holiday production. Meet Me in St. Louis focuses on family relationships, and provides the opportunity for Tomkins' to utilize his strength of beautiful storytelling. His last season's holiday production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast took home a Seattle Times Footlight Award surely due in part to his masterful staging abilities. Tomkins comments, "Because Meet Me in St. Louis is based on a movie, the musical poses its own set of challenges for our artistic team. Some of the best elements of the movie are things that are beyond the scope of what can be done on the stage. Our job, therefore, has been to find the areas in which we shine. With a grand-scale set design by Steven Capone, lavish costumes by local designer Cynthia Savage, and the lighting magic of Aaron Copp, our team has certainly risen to the occasion."

Village Theatre's production of Meet Me in St. Louis boasts an array of large-scale dance numbers (co-choreographed by Kristin Culp), roughly 122 costumes, 26 cast members, and a 12 piece orchestra lead by resident music director Tim Symons. Symons has been part of the music department at Village Theatre for over twelve years, and involved in over 60 productions.

As the curtain rises on the famous World's Fair in 1904, this extraordinary musical follows the Smith family and the move that threatens to change their lives forever. Memorable tunes like "The Trolley Song," "Meet Me in St. Louis," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" will have you singing along in no time.
