Intiman Announces Whim W'Him as Resident Dance Company

By:

Intiman Theatre Artistic Director Kate Whoriskey is pleased to announce a new five-year partnership with Seattle dance company, Whim W'Him, where they will become the theatre's first Resident Dance Company. Olivier Wevers, Whim W'Him's Founder, Artistic Director and a principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet, will launch his company's second season and their first in residency at Intiman, with a performance titled, Shadows, Raincoats and Monsters, January 14 - 16, 2011.

The terms of the agreement allow Whim W'Him, with its company of ten dancers, a performance home through 2015, including at least one weekend of public performances a year, and likely more. Both Intiman and Whim W'Him are committed to creating multi-disciplinary work and investing in innovative ways to develop productions. Whoriskey and Wevers are hopeful that what begins as a venue-share will result in additional partnership opportunities over the next five years. Whoriskey says of the partnership, "Olivier is a vibrant, fresh voice in the dance community. Intiman is proud to provide his company with a home. As the theatre moves forward, I am interested in welcoming other art forms into the building and breaking down the barriers between dance, music and theatre. The collaboration provides a great opportunity for the Intiman audience and the Whim W'Him audience to meet each other and experience the work that each company does."

"I have always loved Intiman as a performer and audience member, and I am proud to call it our home," states Wevers. "The intimacy the space creates is perfect for dance. Kate's vision and openness to new ideas is thoroughly refreshing, it's exactly what Seattle needs right now. I can't think of a better partner as we seek to build our audience and develop new works that push creative limits."
Shadows, Raincoats and Monsters, kicks off the company's second season and features three provocative dance collaborations including Cylindrical Shadows a new work by internationally acclaimed European choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. The performances will also include two premieres, Monster and This Is Not A Raincoat, choreographed by Wevers.

Tickets are $25 and are available now from www.brownpapertickets.org or 1-800-838-3006.
