BPA Gallery July First Friday Art Walk Features Musical Duo Joe Van Dyke and Mike Lisagor

By:

Come to the BPA Gallery July 6 for an artist reception and an enjoyable evening of art and friends. For his latest artistic endeavor, Mike Lisagor used shapes and color to reveal the emotional tones of musical instruments and the hands that manipulate them. Each image evolved from a photograph Mike took of Bainbridge High marching band members, fellow musicians, and street performers in Port Townsend and Banff, Canada. These 16 inch x 20 inch images are printed on canvas, each with a black one-inch siding.

Joe Van Dyke and Mike Lisagor have performed together for almost two years as part of the Good Karma Blues. They've now branched out with their own unique vocal, guitar and harmonica take on blues and blues rock standards. Their next free performance as a duo will be at BPA's First Friday Art Walk, July 6 at 6:15 p.m. along with an exhibit of Mike's "Music Makers" graphic art.

Mike's life goal is to create as many positive connections with people as possible through his pursuits of writing, speaking, music, and art. Exploring his environment through a lens and with Photoshop since 1999, Mike enjoys using them to share who he is and how he sees the world. His favorite art is created when he is appreciating his surroundings instead of being distracted by worries. In these moments, he is more aware of tiny details; things don't just pass him by.

Mike's nature photos have been in galleries including Bainbridge Arts & Craft as well as the Boston Globe, the Bainbridge Review, Living Buddhism, Art Access, and several online publications. His digital graphic art has been incorporated into web site designs, webinars and in numerous print publications, and he taught digital photography workshops through Bainbridge Arts & Crafts. Mike also plays harmonica and sings with local musicians.

The BPA Gallery showcases regional artists in monthly rotating exhibits in the C. Keith Birkenfeld Lobby and regularly participates in the First Friday Art Walk from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Gallery hours are 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Tuesday - Friday plus one hour prior to each performance. Admission is free, and information is available online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org, by phone at 206.842.8569 or in person at BPA, 200 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island.

BPA is supported, in part, by Bainbridge Community Foundation, the City of Bainbridge Island, and One Call for All.
