Artswest is proud to present the Seattle Premiere of Alan Bennett's multiple Tony Award-winning play, THE HISTORY BOYS, March 4-28.

In THE HISTORY BOYS, an unruly bunch of bright, funny, sixthform (or senior) boys in a British boys' school are in pursuit of sex, sport, and a place at a good university . . . generally in that order. They are helped and hindered, enlightened and bemused, by a maverick English teacher who seeks to broaden their horizons, and a young history teacher who questions the methods, as well as the aim, of their schooling.

"THE HISTORY BOYS is about education, but more importantly it's about who educates and how they do it," said ArtsWest Theater and Education Director Christopher Zinovitch. "Alan Bennett shows it's not about tests, or about the "things" that help a child learn, it is about the people who teach."

Directed by Zinovitch (I Am My Own Wife), THE HISTORY BOYS features: John Budge, Cole Cook, Nick Edwards (Pinocchio), Alex Garnett (Black Gold), Justin Huertas (bare), Dennis Kleinsmith, Jon Lutyens (The Gifts of the Magi), Jody McCoy, Ben McFadden (The Vertical Hour), Andrew McIntyre (As Bees in Honey Drown), Caleb Todd and John Wray (The Retreat From Moscow).

"There are few plays written in the last 25 years that are as satisfying as THE HISTORY BOYS," said ArtsWest Executive Director Alan Harrison. "The experience presents a completely engaging societal battle of wits, skills, and souls. I think that people will be shocked, when they look at their watches when the play is over, that two hours will have gone by in what seemed like only fifteen minutes. It is certainly the most anticipated opening in Seattle this year."
