Annex Opens Their 22nd Season With THE BELIEVERS 10/23-11/21

By: Oct. 12, 2009

Annex Theatre presents the first production of its 2009-2010 season, The Believers, written and directed by Jim Bovino. Fresh from Minneapolis, The Believers will run from October 23rd through November 21st. There will be no performance on Saturday, October 31st. Thursday, October 29th & Friday, October 30th performances are Pay What You Can. Industry night is Monday, November 9th at 8pm. For more information please visit www.annextheatre.org

Critically acclaimed by the Minneapolis arts board, The Believers examines the manufacturing of reality: Do we know why we do what we do? Are we able to think our own thoughts, or are we just parroting the pre-digested ideas of our culture? Mixing the metaphysical slapstick of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead and the unsettled atmospheres of Kafka, The Believers depicts a town where the Historical Society manipulates the population by manipulating the stories they live by. The cameras are always rolling, the lights are always on, and the hero could
be you.

Bovino is working with heady and philosophically charged material here, and he deftly steers the ship around from metaphysics and allegory to social commentary. - Minneapolis City Pages, September 2006

Jim Bovino is the former artistic director of Flaneur Productions in Minneaopolis, MN, where he wrote and directed a number of critically acclaimed productions, including The Strong and Capable Shoulders of the Student When He Dreams and Baudelaire Lies. Flaneur Productions was spotlighted by American Theatre magazine in 2004 and named "Best in Theatre" for 2005 by Minneapolis City Pages.
