A.C.T Announces Casting For LNT Production of 'The Exam'

American Conservatory Theater's Young Conservatory director Craig Slaight announced casting today for The Exam, commissioned by London's National Theatre and written by renowned British writer and comedian Andy Hamilton. Directed by Amelia Stewart, the production features actors from A.C.T.'s acclaimed Young Conservatory program. The Exam plays August 15–22 at A.C.T.'s newest performance space, the Garret Room, located on the fifth floor of the American Conservatory Theater. In The Exam, three teens battle pen, paper, and the rigors of a high-pressure exam in this bold comedic gem. Brilliant, overachieving Bea negotiates all-too-adoring parents, Andrew worries himself into a frenzy, and prankster Chas invents his own slang—all while evil genius "Ex," the disembodied voice of the test, taunts them. A warm, witty take on disastrous parenting, teen angst, and coming to terms with dreams and doubts, The Exam is a stylish one-act comedy for parents and students alike who have been challenged by the pressures of testing.

The cast features young actors from throughout the Bay Area, and includes Marc Bermudez, Christine Fraher, Selene Garcia, Portia Juliette, Marissa Leitman, Elizabeth Levinson, Myles Jones Mendoza, John Merritt, Rachel Purvis, David Stack, and Christina Wilkes.

Playwright Andy Hamilton is one of Britain's most loved and successful comedy writers and performers. He is known throughout the UK for his appearances on television shows such as Have I Got News For You and QI. He is co-creator and co-writer of the BBC's current hit sitcom Outnumbered and was co-creator of the classic British sitcom Drop the Dead Donkey.

The A.C.T. Young Conservatory offers a broad range of theater training for young people aged 8 to 19. The 10 sessions and four public productions offered throughout the year are designed to develop talent and creativity, as well as communication and cooperation skills, for young people with all levels of theater background. The Garret Room is one of A.C.T.'s newest performance spaces, located on the fifth floor of the historic American Conservatory Theater. Showcasing the original brick walls and historic charm from its original 1911 design, the Garret Room is now home to performances, cabaret-style events, dinners, and meetings.
