The New Year is a romantic tragicomedy following two lonely teenagers who meet on New Year's Eve in an online roleplay chatroom, forming an unexpectedly intimate bond that sustains them through adolescence until real life intrudes. The play features a script by Max Rosenblum and direction by Jake Keville, with cast members Katy Shafer and Connor Strycharz making their Edinburgh Fringe debuts. The production previously ran in New York City at The Tank in May 2026 and is the inaugural play of No Shoelaces Productions, produced by Kenzie Packer and Zoe Gray of Foul Fiend Theatre Troupe.
