Recorded live, the original Köln Concert became the best-selling solo piano album in history, despite Jarrett nearly canceling the show due to exhaustion and a failing instrument. The performance is celebrated as a pinnacle of spontaneous composition, with four entirely improvised movements that blur the lines between jazz, gospel and classical music. Born and raised in Italy, Riccardo Atanasio earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance summa cum laude from the Conservatorio di Musica di Vicenza “Arrigo Pedrollo” under Maestro Marco Tezza.
