STEVE BURNS: ALIVE and TWITCH to Make UK Premieres at Edinburgh Festival Fringe
TWITCH, written by Liliana Padilla and starring Joslyn DeFreece, will play Underbelly Bristo Square.
George Strus has announced the UK premieres of Steve Burns: Alive and Twitch as part of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe programme.
Steve Burns’ autobiographical one-person show Steve Burns: Alive, co-written by Matthew Freeman, tells the story of the beloved host of Blue’s Clues, who suddenly departed from the show, sparking widespread rumours that he had died. The play explores the impact of online misinformation and the lasting effects of public mythmaking. Directed by Sivan Battat, the production begins performances on 5 August and runs until 30 August at Belly Button, Underbelly Cowgate.
Also premiering is Liliana Padilla’s Twitch - a new one-person show about a mother’s search to find her estranged son who has gone missing. Exploring grief, communication and the truths families struggle to confront, the play asks what remains unsaid between the people closest to us, with actress Joslyn DeFreece playing all the roles. The production is directed by Jack Ferver, and runs from 5 August to 30 August at Clover, Underbelly Bristo Square.
George Strus said, “After making our Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut last year with Cecilia Gentili’s Red Ink, Breaking the Binary Theatre is thrilled to return this year with Liliana Padilla’s haunting and compelling solo-show Twitch, which began its life as part of the inaugural Breaking the Binary Theatre Festival - an Obie and GLAAD Media Award-winning annual Festival showcasing the work of trans and non-binary artists. In addition, Benson Drive Productions is overjoyed to bring the great Steve Burns to Edinburgh with his stirring and dynamic solo show Alive, which poses profound questions about connection and mental health. After seeing over 150 shows at last year’s Festival, I am thrilled to be bringing both of these solo productions to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year!”
