I AM JOHNNY will make its World Premiere at Summerhall Arts at Edinburgh Fringe. Performances will run 6 - 31 August at Summerhall, Red Lecture Theatre.

Tessa Parr is Johnny the Biblical Rapper. I AM JOHNNY sees the acclaimed actor and theatremaker transform into a white male 30-something poet-manchild.

Navigating the world from a place of vulnerability doesn't come easy to Johnny, but poetry speaks to the soul so he's found the perfect medium. Johnny is fresh from the gym, found his spotlight and is willing to give it a go. After all - it's what the people want.

Strikingly timely in light of the rapidly widening class divide and the evolving discourse around troubled masculinity, Parr presents a gripping and intimate exploration of masculinity, emotional exposure, and the quiet expectations that sit beneath honesty.

Tessa Parr commented “With I AM JOHNNY my intention is to bring a nuanced, confronting, and empathetic perspective to this topic—one shaped and held by a female-led voice. The show seeks to hold up a mirror to reality, offering both confrontation and liberation, and to approach troubled masculinity with curiosity over judgement.”

The debut solo theatre show from Tessa Parr, I AM JOHNNY is an unsettlingly funny, absurd, and politically sharp interrogation of gender, class, vulnerability, and our society's fragile power dynamics. Blending surreal humour and piercing insight, JOHNNY invites audiences to attempt to understand the man's complex existence.
