Altered Skin's POWER GAMES Dance-Theatre Piece Set for Edinburgh Fringe thru Aug 24

By:

Altered Skin/Escalator East to Edinburgh present: Power Games, an interactive, narrative dance-theatre from exciting new company. Think you're in control of your life? Think again. Power Games is the début Fringe show from Altered Skin, the new company created by Shane Shambhu.

Power Games blends character-driven physical theatre with contemporary and South Asian dance in a powerful, interactive exploration of the forces that shape our destiny. It tells the story of Deepak, a wealthy banker whose life is spiralling out of control in his quest to build an ever greater fortune. Using a playful TV-style game show format the show allows the audience to influence the outcome of Deepak's story by casting their votes at crucial stages of the narrative.

Leading the four-piece ensemble is Shane Shambhu, a British born actor, dancer and choreographer whose acting credits include Complicité's triple award winning A Disappearing Number.

Shane was born in London's East End and first took traditional Indian dance lessons at the age of eleven, giving him a lifelong passion for choreography. After avoiding an arranged marriage and escaping a dull marketing job he eventually joined Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company before discovering theatre with Complicité. He toured internationally for three years with Complicité and featured in its radio play for BBC Radio 3 and a worldwide screening for National Theatre Live.

He founded Altered Skin to realise his ambitions of creating new original, dynamic physical and visual theatre to explore contemporary narratives in ways that resonate powerfully with audiences.

Power Games is Altered Skin's first ensemble piece. It is directed & choreographed by Shane Shambhu and written by Shane with Jonathan Grieve.

Power Games has been selected for Escalator East To Edinburgh. Each year Escalator East to Edinburgh helps artists and arts organisations to raise their profile and perform to new audiences as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
