Florida Studio Theatre is inviting audiences to share in a story of humor and humanity with the southeastern premiere of A Tailor Near Me, a tender tale of self-discovery and fresh starts. Previews begin Dec. 10, officially opening Dec. 12, with performances running through Feb. 15, 2026, in FST's Keating Theatre.

In this heartwarming two-hander, a man visits a tailor to have his suit pants let out after realizing he's gained some weight since he last wore them. What starts as a simple alteration turns into a transformative exchange for two men who, at first, seem nothing alike. Through their candid conversations and shared vulnerability, both their lives are altered.

“A Tailor Near Me is about connection. The quiet, unexpected kind that can change a life,” said Director and FST Associate Director At-Large Kate Alexander. “It's a beautifully written piece that celebrates listening, empathy, and the courage it takes to start again – especially between two older men, who aren't used to disclosing their feelings. In a modern world, where AI, social media, and screen time often replace ‘relationship,' I hope this touching story about the authenticity of vulnerability can inspire conversation and connection between all of us.”

A celebrated director, educator, and actor, Alexander has led productions at FST including Dorothy's Dictionary, Bad Books, and The Legend of Georgia McBride. As the founder of FST's award-winning theatre education program, she has trained thousands of students and played a vital role in shaping the theatre's artistic vision for more than 40 years.

Appearing in the role of Sam – the man getting his suit let out – is David Cantor*, who previously appeared in FST's Something Rotten. His theatrical credits include La Vie Parisienne and Evita on Broadway, and TV shows like Girls5Eva, Orange is the New Black, Jessica Jones, and Madam Secretary. Cantor has also narrated 40 books on Audible.

Paul Nicholas*, a previous FST Associate Artist who performed in Honor Killing, appears as Alfredo the tailor. Nicholas' other credits include Goddess at The Public, Blood and Gifts at The Lincoln Center, and national tours of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He also has recurring appearances on shows like FBI and Law & Order: SVU.

The creative team includes Kate Alexander (Director), Isabel & Moriah Curley-Clay (Scenic Design), Andrew Gray (Lighting Design), Nicholas Christensen (Sound Design), Madison Queen (Costume Design), Carissa Ater (Sound and Light Board Operator/Stage Management Intern), Kelli Karen* (AEA Stage Manager), and Paul Meier (Dialect Coach).
