Willows Theatre Presents 'Barefoot in the Park' Oct. 12 - Nov. 8

The Willows Theatre is proud to present the hilarious Neil Simon comedy Barefoot in the Park, October 12-November 8, 2009. This nostalgic look at newlyweds and New York in the ‘60s is directed by Richard Elliott. The Willows Theatre is located at 1975 Diamond Blvd. (in the Willows Shopping Center), Concord, CA 94520.

Barefoot in the Park gives us just-married Corie and Paul Bratter, who are setting up house in a minuscule fifth-floor walkup apartment in a Greenwich Village brownstone. Paul is a straight-laced attorney, Corie a far more spontaneous free spirit. The two must contend with a lack of heat, a skylight with a gaping hole, several long flights of stairs, oddball neighbor Victor Velasco, and Corie's well-meaning mother, in addition to adjusting to married life.

Sparks begin to fly as soon as Corie and Paul return from their honeymoon ready to start their exciting new life together, but things don't exactly go as planned. The impulsive Corie's apartment choice is, to say the least, off-the-wall. Six exhausting flights of stairs lead to a one-room apartment which lacks bathtub, furniture, heat, and room for a double bed. What highlights does the apartment supply? Quirky neighbors and a giant hole in the skylight, perfect for the New York City winter weather! Things get a little too cozy for the young couple, and hilarity (and classic Simon one-liners) ensue as the power of love gets tested to its limits.

Neil Simon is at his best in this heart-warming comedy about sacrifices, new beginnings, and not letting obstacles get in the way of what truly matters.

Tickets to Barefoot in the Park are $30-$40 with discounts for students (6-18), seniors (65+), groups (10+), and Preview performances. To purchase tickets call (925) 798-1300 or visit the Willows Theatre web site at www.willowstheatre.org. Performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., with matinees Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m., and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.

The Willows Theatre is located at 1975 Diamond Blvd. next to REI in the Willows Shopping Center in Concord, across the street from the Concord Hilton and one block east of the Willow Pass Road exit off Highway 680.

The Willows Theatre Company Daytime Box Office is located at 636 Ward Street in Martinez, in the lobby of the Campbell Theatre. Box Office hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12-6 pm.
