THE READINESS IS ALL: A SOLO HAMLET Plays The 2019 San Francisco Fringe Festival
Laurel Scotland-Stewart will present The Readiness Is All: A Solo Hamlet, a one-woman adaptation of Shakespeare's existential masterpiece, as part of the 28th annual San Francisco Fringe Festival, September 5 - 14, 2019. The Readiness Is All: A Solo Hamlet will be presented Friday, Sept 6 at 7:00; Sunday, Sept 8 at 2:00; Tuesday, Sept 10 at 8:30; and Friday, Sept 13 at 8:30, at EXIT Stage Left.
Spend an hour exploring the psyche of Shakespeare's most introspective character as Laurel Scotland-Stewart inhabits Hamlet in his journey from shock and dislocation through madness to a final confrontation with himself. This adaptation, which focuses on Hamlet's story within the context of the play, emphasizes themes of self-estrangement, isolation, love, death, and the meaning of human existence.
Laurel Scotland-Stewart is an actor and theatre artist whose work explores philosophical themes through experimental theatrical forms. She studied acting and performance at NYU's Experimental Theatre Wing, and holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Stanford. She has appeared with a number of Bay Area theatre organizations, including EXIT Theatre Company, San Francisco Olympians, Theater of Others, Ninjaz of Drama, The Collected Works, Stanford Department of Theater and Performance Studies, and Every House Has a Door Theatre Company in residence at Stanford. She teaches philosophy at the University of San Francisco. This project grew out of a desire to explore Hamlet from a very personal, existential perspective. It integrates her work in philosophy, personal narrative, and experimental theatre.
