THE GREAT REVUES Replaced With SHADOWS OF POMPEII 4/16-26
By: Gabrielle Sierra
42nd Street Moon today announced that the previously scheduled non-subscription program The Great Revues has been replaced with the dramatic new musical Shadows of Pompeii to run April 16 - 26, 2009. The show will be submitted in 2010 to the National Alliance for Musical Theatre's Festival of New Musicals.
A saga of Romans living in the seaside village of Pompeii in AD 79 at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, Shadows of Pompeii was written by Bay Area playwright R.C. Staab, with music and lyrics by Keith Herrmann, the Tony-nominated composer of Romance, Romance, Onward Victoria (also featured on Broadway) and Prom Queens Unchained, an off-Broadway hit.Led by Director Dianna Shuster, former Artistic Director of American Musical Theatre of San Jose, Shadows of Pompeii will feature a cast of nine actors including many that are familiar 42nd Street Moon company members. In addition, 42nd Street Moon is to present four performances of Craig Jessup Sings Noel Coward at 7 pm on April 5, 7, 8 and 12. Jessup, a noted cabaret performer and Moon veteran, created his one-man musical to honor the centennial of Noel Coward's birth. The show consists primarily of Coward's own words, extracted from diaries, interviews and his many hit songs and comedies. 42nd Street Moon presents the sassy 60s musical High Spirits based on Coward's sparkling comedy Blithe Spirit from March 19 through April 12.
