Sue Bevan's AN AUDIENCE WITH SHURL will play the San Francisco Fringe Festival this September. What's a girl to do when at just 15 she's forced to give up her newborn for adoption? Follow our tragicomic Shurl in her search for connection in an ever-shifting landscape.

This 'captivating', (The Stage) edgy show draws on Sue Bevan's own experience of losing her child to adoption as a teenager raised in a poor, tight-knit community. But the universality of connection, loss and search for meaning have moved audiences across the globe. 'Storytelling at its very best,' (EdFringe Review) this powerful, tragicomic solo show hits Sffringe next month. Shurl has captivated audiences from Stockholm to Cape Town, London and Edinburgh to Boston.

This piece was one of just five non-African plays invited to be performed at the triennial Women Playwrights International Conference in Cape Town, and was produced in Sweden alongside Knutte Wester's exhibition on migration. Edgy and unexpected, the performance weaves rich autobiographical detail with powerful poetic storytelling. Sue Bevan's own story of her dramatic reunion with her child after 21 years apart is available on Amazon, and her BBC documentary on the story won the silver Sony Award.
