Steve Silver Scholarship For The Arts Finals Take Place 6/8

By:

Producer Jo Schuman Silver announced today that Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, the world's longest running musical revue, will celebrate its 35th anniversary by holding an extra special Steve Silver Foundation & Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts" Finals on Monday, June 8, at Lowell High School, Steve Silver's alma mater.

The Steve Silver Foundation & Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts," created in 2002 as part of its commitment to the arts, has grown into an event eagerly anticipated by San Francisco Bay Area high schools and the community. Talented high school seniors from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area are asked to send in a three-minute recording of them performing in one of three categories: singing, acting or dancing. The top three finalists in each category will perform their three-minute piece live at Lowell High School on Monday, June 8th in front of celebrity judges and an invited audience made up of their family and friends. One winner from each category will be presented with a $10,000 check towards their higher education from The Steve Silver Foundation & Beach Blanket Babylon.

In addition to the finalist performances, the 35th Anniversary show will also include special performances by the cast of Beach Blanket Babylon as well as a reunion performance of previous "Scholarship for the Arts" winners.

"It was so important to Steve to encourage young artists to follow their dreams and express their creativity," said Schuman Silver. "I can't think of a better way to honor his legacy, as well as the anniversary of his extraordinary show, than by awarding $30,000 to talented San Francisco Bay Area high school seniors."

A limited number of 35th Anniversary tickets for this invitation-only event will be given away through an enter-to-win essay contest. To enter, send an essay of 250 words or less describing your favorite Beach Blanket Babylon experience, anecdote or your best excuse for never seeing the show. All entries must be emailed to newsletter@beachblanketbabylon.com by midnight on April 24, 2009. Please include your name, mailing address and phone number.
