This unique festival, which began in 2004 as a celebration of local theater, has become an important showcase for theater groups and performers, as well as one of the Bay Area's most popular one-day free summer festivals. The Festival program consists of short performances under 30 minutes at nine indoor and eight outdoor stages. All types of theater are presented, including drama, comedy, one-acts, excerpts, great scenes, musical theater, solo performers, improv, children's shows, new works, workshops, opera.

"By working together, the San Francisco Bay Area's theater community has created the largest theater event of the year. Our main objective is to showcase exciting performers and promote theatergoing," said executive producer Bill Schwartz.

The festival, with attendance of over 10,000 enthusiastic theatergoers takes place at Yerba Buena Gardens, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Zeum, and the Metreon. Last year's festival featured performances by the Broadway show Wicked and by Beach Blanket Babylon. Previous festivals have included: The Marsh, Tell it on Tuesday, 42nd Street Moon, Lamplighters Music Theater, Exit Theatre, A.C.T. Conservatory, Cal Shakes, SF Shakespeare Festival, Stagebridge, No Nude Men Productions, Three Wise Monkeys, Dan Hoyle, Charlie Varon, and many others.

Applications to perform can be found at: www.SFTheaterFestival.org (click on Perform). The deadline is May 3, 2010. Early applications receive priority for time slots and stages. There is no fee to apply or perform in the festival. Performers can staff tables for distribution of promotional literature and for subscription sales.
