San Francisco Playhouse to Present Sarah Ruhl's STAGE KISS

By:

San Francisco Playhouse (Bill English, Artistic Director; Susi Damilano, Producing Director) continues its thirteenth Mainstage season with the Bay Area premiere of Sarah Ruhl's valentine to the theatre, Stage Kiss, directed by Susi Damilano. The show will feature Allen Darby, Millie DeBenedet, Taylor Jones, Gabriel Marin*, Carrie Paff*, Mark Anderson Phillips*, and Michael Gene Sullivan*.

Stage Kiss is a wry romantic comedy about two former lovers who find themselves starring in a play together. As they're required to share the stage, and stage kisses, they have to navigate their feelings for one another, and the line between art and reality starts to blur. Art imitates Life imitates Art. This frothy farce mixing stage drama and backstage lives is a semi-romantic comedy, tripping lightly through a playground of desire and sexual fantasy. Is this kiss for real?

"How weird, to watch actors kiss," said playwright Sarah Ruhl on her inspiration for the play. "It's their job, and what a wonderful job, to get to walk in and kiss attractive people all day, but also what a weird job."

San Francisco Playhouse's production of Stage Kiss is made possible by producers Dana and Gary Shapiro and Associate Producers Fred & Beth Karrenand Richard & Susan Lieberman.

Art imitates Life imitates Art. And the dance continues. Prepare yourself for a frothy farce mixing stage drama and backstage lives into an intoxicating delight. This semi-romantic comedy delivers the laughs, tripping lightly through a playground of desire and sexual fantasy. Is this kiss for real?
