SHN will present The Bridge Project production of RICHARD III by William Shakespeare featuring Kevin Spacey with Sam Mendes directing. The SHN presentation in San Francisco is the only other U.S. city besides the New York BAM engagement where The Bridge Project's production of RICHARD III will play.

The Bridge Project is a unique three-year series of co-productions by BAM, The Old Vic, and Neal Street, devoted to producing large-scale, classical theater for international audiences. Bank of America is the proud presenting sponsor of The Bridge Project. The final season of The Bridge Project featuring Kevin Spacey, Artistic Director of The Old Vic, in the title role of Richard III, opened at The Old Vic in London on June 29, 2011. The Bridge Project is directed by Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes with whom Kevin Spacey worked on the film American Beauty, for which they both won BAFTA and Academy Awards.

The production is embarking on an international tour including the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Spain's Centro Niemeyer, Istanbul Theatre Festival (IKSV) & Istanbul Municipal Theatres, The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Singapore Repertory Theatre and Star City Lyric Theatre, Sydney, BAM's Harvey Theater in New York and SHN's Curran Theatre in San Francisco.

HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical
Golden Gate Theatre (1 Taylor Street)

The 2009 Tony Award-Winning Musical Revival includes such enduring musical numbers as "Let the Sun Shine In," "Aquarius," "Hair" and "Good Morning Starshine," HAIR depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 60's and 70's that changed America forever. The musical follows a group of hopeful, free-spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free-love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War. As they explore sexual identity, challenge racism, experiment with drugs and burn draft cards, the show resonates with an irresistible message of hope more than 40 years after it first opened on Broadway.

HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival as well as the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. HAIR was also nominated for an additional seven Tony Awards including Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. The cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

FELA!

FELA! , directed by Bill T. Jones, is a provocative hybrid of dance, theatre and music exploring the extravagant world of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. The show has become an international sensation having been performed on three continents. FELA! will play November 15 - December 11 at San Francisco's Curran Theatre (445 Geary Street) which operates under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays.

Recognized as an icon in the international world of rock and roll, soul, jazz and hip-hop, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was born in Abeokuta, Nigeria, north of Lagos in 1938. Kuti found his authentic musical voice adding elements of traditional Yoruba, high life and jazz, giving rise to "Afrobeat". Through his music he condemned military regimes in Nigeria for their mismanagement, and marginalization of the underprivileged. He produced over 70 albums during his career. Featuring many of Fela Kuti's most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones's visionary staging, FELA! reveals Kuti's controversial life as an artist and political activist and celebrates his pioneering music.
